Risk-versus-reward endgame guide
How to survive high Threat Levels in The Sift
Higher Threat Levels improve rarity and effect tiers, but the best setting is the highest one you can clear consistently. S-tier loot per hour falls when deaths, failed towers, and slow bosses erase the drop improvement.
- Unique rolls from Threat 4
- Tier III effects from Threat 6
- Soul Storms
- Clear speed matters
Fact-checked
Threat scale
- Threat 1–2
- Only tier I effects in current launch-data analysis
- Threat 3
- Tier II effects enter the pool
- Threat 4
- Unique rarity begins appearing in published threat weighting
- Threat 6
- Tier III effects enter and Common weighting is reduced
- Threat 20
- Tier I effects leave the published pool entirely
- Best setting
- The highest level with fast, repeatable clears and few deaths
Reward
Know the reward thresholds before raising difficulty
| Threat range | Reward change | Practical decision |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Tier I effects only | Use for learning routes and stabilizing a new build. |
| 3 | Tier II effects enter | A useful first farming threshold when clears remain fast. |
| 4–5 | Unique weighting begins | Raise only if the build still handles elites and bosses cleanly. |
| 6+ | Tier III effects enter and Common weight falls | Strong farm target when deaths do not slow the loop. |
| 20 | Tier I leaves the pool | Endgame optimization, not a default setting for an unfinished build. |
Survive
Use a survival-first Sift plan
- Test one level above comfort
Raise difficulty by one step and measure time, deaths, healing pressure, and useful drops.
- Keep a retreat lane
Do not enter a room until you know which path remains open if empowered mobs or a boss spawn.
- Kill control enemies first
Summoners, ranged elites, and displacement effects turn ordinary damage into unavoidable overlap.
- Save burst for towers and bosses
Do not spend every artifact on the first trash group before a Soul Storm generator phase.
- Leave with the upgrade
Once the targeted gear problem is solved, bank the result instead of risking a long low-value extension.
Build
A build is ready only when all four checks pass
- Time to kill
- Priority elites die before a second dangerous cycle overlaps.
- Recovery
- The build can heal or disengage without waiting through multiple rooms.
- Crowd control
- At least one tool prevents dense Sift groups from surrounding the hero.
- Boss plan
- The build has a specific answer for elemental resistances and sparse soul generation.
Measure
Measure S-tier loot per hour, not per chest
Drop the Threat Level when
- A normal room consumes the cooldowns and healing intended for a boss or tower.
- One death or reset adds more time than the higher rarity weighting can repay.
- The build cannot safely reach the reward chest, making the theoretical drop pool irrelevant.
- You are farming Echo Shards or a route objective that does not require the maximum rarity tier.
- Co-op scaling or party desynchronization makes clears inconsistent.
